When we envision a diverse and inclusive workforce, we tend to think about increasing quality opportunities for people with different backgrounds, race, gender identity, or ages, to name a few. However, it’s also important to look at our policies and to see if they foster supportive practices for individuals with disabilities.

Everyone has unconscious biases. These biases occur automatically and are caused by our background, upbringing, culture and other personal experiences. As human resources professionals and executive staff, it is our responsibility to address and dismantle these biases.

We recently moderated a panel discussion titled "Drawing the Line: Gender Equity and Facing Sexual Harassment and Mistreatment in the Cultural Field" at the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) Annual Conference. Attendees received first-hand knowledge and inspiration on how to take steps within their organizations to deal with the issues of gender inequity and sexual harassment.
