Richard Hetherington, CPA, MBA

Accounting

Richard has been a Manager at Kiwi Partners since 1999 and has over nineteen years of experience in legal, financial and nonprofit organizations. Richard currently performs the CFO/Controller/Director of Finance role while managing client engagements, including providing oversight and support of Kiwi’s and client’s accounting staff. He currently works on interim, special project and long term assignments with Gilda’s Club of NYC, the National Employment Law Project (NELP), the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Coalition (IGLHRC), New York Cares, A Better Chance, DNDi North America (Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative); Physicians for Reproductive Choice and Health (PRCH); the Risk Foundation; Student Sponsorship Programme; and the Fund for War Affected Children & Youth in Northern Uganda (a MacArthur Foundation initiative).

From 1999-2007, Richard was the full-time CFO for The American Thoracic Society (“ATS”) from its start-up phase in 1999 to a $25mm organization. Richard lead the implementation of software for accounting, membership and subscriptions, and fund raising activities; established and managed all banking requirements. Richard managed cash-flows/liquidity, investments, receivables, billing, fixed assets and prepared the corporate budget, monthly financial statements and forecast projections. Richard wrote the organization’s formal Financial Policies and Procedures Manual, designed managerial accounting reports for Staff Program Directors as well as the 28 member Board of Directors and presented financial statements and opinions to the Board of Directors. During his tenure he trained, supervised & mentored five accounting staff in accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll.

 

Richard received his Commerce undergraduate degree (Finance Major) and his Law degree from the University of Otago, New Zealand. Richard completed the two year Executive MBA program at the NYU, Stern School of Business, specializing in Finance, Leadership and Management. He also is a CPA in the State of New York.
